It is obvious that Nigeria is fast becoming a failed state in spite of recent occurrences on the ground in Nigeria.
With three major groups forming rebellions in their attempts to break away from the country and the state of security that is appalling with no safety of any life guaranteed I believe it is high time we ask for the help of the international community.
There has been a rise in the numbers of people kidnapped and in fact, some areas of Nigeria have become markets for human body parts where people are killed daily, some because they could not afford the demanded ransom (Mostly money) by the bandits behind all the barbaric acts or the people that are just doing it because they can, and no security operatives will be able to counter them.
The weapons used by some of these bandits/criminals most times are superior to the weapons the Military personnel ordered to fight these terrorists. Most budgets for security and Military resources are in the pocket of some politicians acting in the name of Ministry leadership or departments.
Up to date, there are several young people missing, most of them have been killed and some in the captivity of these hoodlums looking for the highest bidders to buy their body parts for rituals or other terrible acts.
Recently there was a vessel on its way to China that was intercepted by the Military with loads of hearts and penis to be sold in China according to the news.
The government is struggling to cope with security and safety challenges. Nigeria is fast becoming another Democratic Republic of Congo, or should we say Rwanda because of the uprising of secessionists that may soon become rebel factions in the country. There are assured risks of a new civil war like the ones in the 1960s where lots of Families were killed and many could not be accounted for during the Biafran war crisis.
The economy is nothing to write home about except for the corrupt citizens who are stealing the destinies of many, laundering money everywhere in the world. Some even die with no access to some of these ill-gotten funds.
Many families are dying of hunger and many young people have turned to prostitution and fraudulent activities on an international scale.
One of the main problems of the country (Nigeria) is that the Nigerian people are completely different from the westerners and the system of government in the West may not work in most developing worlds.
Nigeria practices a three-arm American style Federal system of governance, most of the power is vested in the executives, then, when there are failures in these quarters, no other arm of the government would be able to step in to fill the gaps.
Even though the British system which seems like a three-tier governance, we have Her Majesty the Queen to oversee and regulate the system. She might not appear to do a lot to a lay person, the power to hire and fire is vested in the Crown.
Proposal:
I sent a proposal to parliament, to help Nigeria restructure to a four-arm Governance to empower the traditional rulers (regional Kings, Obas, Emirs, and Obis) to become an equal institution that will regulate the actions of the executive councils while the federal institutions carry on with the governance of the country.
At the moment, the traditional rulers are lower in ranks compared to the politicians who are mostly corrupt and their term of service is set for four years, (the politicians made laws to pay the salaries of the traditional rulers in order to keep them quiet, so there could not be any interference in acts of corruptions) while kings and other regional leaders are there for their lifetime, so I believe it would be easier to hold the kings who are serving their communities for a lifetime more accountable than unreliable politicians who holds the country ransom for four years and at most a single person would serve for
8 years and steal as much as they can. Africans are used to the same people ruling them all the time, so democracy without the traditional leaders is just re-inventing the wheel without the original structure.
There were precedents in the past where traditional rulers were held responsible for their actions in their regions.
Some traditional leaders for the shame of wrongdoings, abdicated their thrones and served as examples to other regional leaders to do what is right in their kingdoms.
Nigeria is not Britain or the United States of America where leaders are selfless. A country like Nigeria needs continuity in Governance which can only be guaranteed by empowering traditional leaders to serve as regulators to the government and be accountable to the grassroots.
Security:
Nigeria now needs a strategy with which to ensure adequate security of lives and properties and they need it fast, if not we will have another Libya or Iraq in our hands, and this may quickly become a haven for terrorist breeding.
Please note that the Northern part of the country is also being torn apart by Boko Haram terror Factions in Nigeria:.
- Yoruba Nation agitators in the South
- Biafran Secessionists in the East
- Boko haram supported by ISIS in the North.
